What is An Educational Consultant?

Acting as a guide

The most important thing that we at Redwood can help you with is creating new opportunities.

Our goal is to be a close and trusted resource in helping families make the best decisions for themselves and their children, and we are committed to helping parents gain the perspective that will allow them to be the best advocate for their child’s needs.

An Educational Consultant’s role is similar to that of a project manager, a general contractor, or a primary care physician.

We help to centralize and synthesize the vast amounts of school and program information that can often be overwhelming. We help the family and, when appropriate, the student to understand the different options and how and why they are recommended. We can also help to bring in other trusted resources as needed, this can include other professionals such as:

  • Advocates

  • Educational Attorneys

  • Special Needs Financial Advisors

  • Transport Agencies

  • Interventionists

  • Parent Coaches

In addition to ensuring that parents and students are receiving the most up-to-date information about available options, we also help to oversee the continuum of care and that the family is getting what they need throughout the student’s stay once a school or program has been selected. Families are coming to Redwood seeking assistance with a number of different things including:

  • Traditional School Selection

  • Special Needs School Selection

  • Therapeutic and Residential Program Selection

  • Gap Year Selection

  • Alternative Programming

At Redwood, our professionals are intent on continuing to learn and grow. We are regularly attending workshops, conferences, and seminars locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Additionally, developing first-hand knowledge of schools and programs is critical for a consultant. We dedicate a great deal of our time to visiting schools and programs across the country while intimately getting to know the particulars of their programs and building relationships with their staff. Our commitment is to consistently understand and engage with schools and programs in an effort to understand their focus and strengths. We help families get past the marketing materials and help them to know the people and methodologies that make a place tick. In addition to helping families identify the most appropriate options, we also assist in school and program introductions and help to navigate the admissions process whenever appropriate.
